REPLY TO SMILES

SMILES Good luck I know what its like to be on the pre-op diet I did it for 4 weeks and my doctor was really strict Optifast ONLY for breakfast, lunch and tea and green veg only 2 cups per day!! there were some days I would rather of starved then stomach another optifast but I got through it and you will 2!

As I get thinner I realise i have made the right choice not telling many people, I can focus on me and not what everyone else is thinking of my decision. At first my husband thought I was joking when i said what i wanted to do. After a good 12 months of research he began to see I was really serious about my choice of the band! He thinks I made the right choice because he has spent the past 10 years watching me go on and off diets and suddenly seen 30kg disapear off me in 4 months which is something I have never done so fast before. He sees my happiness and he has also seen me in a lot of pain and hes been really great. I needed the support especially from someone who was not going to tell me "I told you so" if it didnt work" Its great that he has finally seen its your decision. You need a bit of help to get through the post op stage because for me it hurt, and I have kids that needed to be cared for a while why I recovered
Best wishes
Good luck. Keep me posted.

Thanks Beena. I have a couple of appointments tomorrow, one with a dietitian and one with the exercise physiologist (exercise ha!). No idea what to expect at these appointments, but they go an hour each. Just another step closer! I guess I'll find out when I have to start the Optifast - something that seems to come with mixed reviews - mostly bad!
On another note, have people commented on how much food you eat (in social situations?) I'm trying to imagine dining out and only eating a small portion. It would have to be quite obvious.
Anyway, have distracted myself from work enough for one day, back to it!

Hi EM,

I am not at restriction yet!!! so Im eating more then i should at this point but still not much... My parents (who know about the band but don't really get it) do make the odd comment like "is that all you are having" they don't really get it!!! I have not yet found that anyone has really noticed me not eating much or maybe they have but just not said anything! the only comments i have is when i dine out and I don't eat the food... The chef seems to think I didn't like it (Ive had a few ask me if i liked the meal only cos there was so much left on the plate!!) I have also told everyone that Im eating less cos i have chosen 2 and that is how i have lost the 30kg!! so i guess thats another reason they dont question me. The best advise i can give anyone is to always grab the smallest plate and just eat off that...People then dont tend to question you so much cos it looks like you are eating a "full meal" but the plate is just smaller!! The band hasnt effected me as much as I though it would. I have been pretty lucky that I can eat pretty much everything just not much of it. i thought I would be vomiting every time i ate!!! The food does get stuck and it can be painful but it passes and you soon learn the lesson to eat slow and chew. The first few weeks after the op you most likely wont feel like eating so just take it slow!! I didn't see an exercise Physiologist but i did have an overnight sleep test which was not fun!!! i must say that the weeks i dont exercise are the weeks I dont loose much or stay the same so its really vital!! thats really great they have got you seeing a specialist in that field!!

All the best
